Help us Build our Atrium
In the early church, the atrium was the entry way into the church building where those preparing to become Christian received instruction. Our atrium for children is a sacred space where our kids can encounter Jesus in a special way, learn about the liturgy and be prepared to fully participate in the life of the Church. In order to help children encounter Christ, the atrium is beautiful and functional, designed to give children sacred space, independence, inspiration and essential truths about our faith.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd follows a Montessori-based educational model. Children learn from the words, movements and joy of their catechists as well as from the prepared environment.
Catechists give short, spiritually rich presentations to the children that lift up the essential truths of our faith and allow children to pray, ponder and internalize these truths. Catechists are required to attend a certification training through CGSUSA. Certification begins at level 1 (for ages 3-6) and then builds into level 2 (for ages 6-9) and level 3 (ages 9-12). Certification for level 1 is an in-person 90 hour training course. Please let us know if you would like to apply to be a catechist.
Catechist Aides assist the catechist in creating a prayerful, peaceful environment in the atrium. Aides help the children with small tasks and assist them in their work of deepening their relationship with God.
“I am on a journey to encounter Him and He is on a journey to encounter me, and when we meet one another we see that the great surprise is that He was seeking me before I began seeking Him.”
